Artist's Description
Photograph of a branch of a pine tree with male gamete or pollen cones, the male pollination reproductive part of a pine tree. This part of the tree is really not a cone, but is correctly identified as microsporangiate strobili. The pollen from the male gamete is spread to the female pine cone buy the wind. Now you know more about pine tree reproduction than you ever wanted to know. The original closeup photograph was processed with a heavy digital post-process to create an vivid colorful impressionistic nature image.
